Our strategy to expand our businesses helps spur the creation of both direct and indirect employment opportunities Conversely, we help to prepare the local workforce to make use of these new employment opportunities. We partner with domestic and international agencies and institutions to create specialized programs to support this transition into jobs.
Social responsibility is a part of our daily business
Social responsibility is, of course, a part of our daily business and a fixed component of our corporate policy and corporate environment. For us, business success and responsibility for the social environment are two sides of the same coin. Our social commitment is not restricted to caring for our employees, however. In the regions in which we are active, we also accept a social responsibility.
With carefully selected projects, we make a lasting contribution to local social and economic development. We identify important, long-term social topics and take these up in our efforts. This is always enforced in line with the country's tradition and development targets.
Developing strong, trusting and lasting relationships with our host communities, and recognizing and respecting people’s human rights and cultural heritage, are principles embedded in our business values, policies and standards.
We aim to be a good neighbor across all our operations and build relationships that share benefits and secure community support for our work. We have strong processes for managing human rights risks. We pay particular attention to human rights issues – such as water resources, land access, resettlement and security – that may be commonly associated with our activities.
Doing our part to create change
While as a firm, our environmental footprint is relatively limited, within the projects we advise and manage, we also seek to take all available steps to mitigate negative environmental impact.
With initiatives including the widespread adoption of video-conference and tel-conferences to avoid unnecessary travel, the implementation of recycling hubs and the use of energy-efficient buildings and technologies, where available. We believe that to be successful, sustainability and corporate responsibility must be embedded in the core of our clients’ strategy and operations.
Impact investing
At Inova, we look to make the best possible investments for our clients by understanding the whole picture of our investments – before, during and after we invest. That includes understanding the environmental, social and governance risks and opportunities they present and how these could affect longer-term performance.
We look to know how investments are managing their strengths and weaknesses, whether related to climate change, human capital management, supply chain issues, diversity or other balance sheet issues. We actively engage with companies to promote best practice. We also apply our sustainability driven approach expertise to a wide range of specialist strategies to meet clients’ specific ethical, socially responsible and thematic (e.g. climate-based) investment goals.
The notion of ‘sustainability’ has most commonly been associated with climate change, but this current revolution goes way beyond that single, albeit vital, issue. Our current economic, social and governance models have to change in the face of a growing and aging global population, scarcity of natural resources, digitisation and rising inequality.
We must therefore fundamentally rethink established norms in areas including transport, food systems, healthcare, education, data management and infrastructure. No country, sector, company, or asset class will go untouched. For some time, the globally-accepted financial services operating model has been under pressure from some large-scale, global challenges, including
Changes in our physical environment caused by climate change;
Shifting demographics as our population expands, ages and becomes more mobile;The depletion of natural resources in the face of a growing population;
Increasing digitalization and connectivity disrupting traditional governance, social and consumption models; Rising inequality, in all its forms, which is already undermining the post-World War II geopolitical stability.
Giving back
We believe that financial services institutions have immense potential to make a positive and lasting impact on society. At Inova, we encourage our employees and partners around the world to give back to the communities in which they live and work. Giving back is not something new for us as many of Inova's founders have been doing it for years - supporting local charities and making a big difference. So rather than choose a cause or a specific charity, Inova encourages individuals and teams across the company, its affiliates and subsidiaries to support the causes they care about most.
